When I found out we were expecting a girl, I was scared, to say the least. I grew up covered in bruises, climbing trees and getting dirty. What was I going to do if my little girl was ALL girl?
Fast forward four years and she is just that. She loves all things pink, always wants her nails painted (my last manicure was over a year ago), always wants to wear lipstick, and thinks that her dance costume is standard attire that should be worn everyday. She has a passion for dancing, singing, and art. She is ALL girl and I'm loving every minute of it.
What I really love about her, however, is her heart. Her compassion and love for others is inspiring. She is always making things for others and picking flowers for me and her baby brother's grave. Her heart is beautiful and is the inspiration behind many of my pieces, including my latest group of paper pieces from my #30daysofpainting.
The Bouquet
Mother's Day this year was harder than I expected. I ended up grieving, which was not a part of my plan for the day. My sweet girl noticed my tears and responded with a bouquet of flowers hand-picked from our garden. With a sadness in her eyes, she told me she missed Thatcher, too. In my sadness, I had almost missed some of my greatest blessings. "The Bouquet" and the pieces that followed were inspired by the sweetest Mother's Day gift.
Her Love
Her love is bright and full of energy. She asks me every night to sing "You Are My Sunshine," which is so fitting. "Her Love" is a 6" x 6" oil on Arches oil paper.
My daughter is teaching me a lot about how to appreciate things. In the hustle and bustle (and even in the ugliness) of life, don't miss the blessings that are right in front of you.
